It was Reginae’s wedding day, her mom fixed her veil and said a prayer for her. They both fought back tears of joy as her mom reached for her purse, pulled out a blue crystal hair pin. It was her great grand -mother’s. She’d given it to her grand-mother who then gave it to her mother and she gave it to her on her wedding day 30 years ago.
“Baby”, she said letting the tears have their way, “This pin represents the spirit of your late grandmother and I. As you take this new journey, we will be with you every step of the way. May it bring you happiness, goodluck and all the strength of the women in your bloodline that have used this before you.” They both broke out in tears as she turned around. Her mom wore the pin just above her veil and they both shared a long hug.
Like Reginae’s mother, the wedding tradition of “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” still resonates with many families today. Something old symbolizes continuity and good tidings. Wondering what’s the perfect “something old”? Jewelry pieces and accessories are just perfect! They stand the test of time and never go out of style no matter what year it is (You didn’t hear that from me! wink**) Hair accessories, bracelets, clothing items, parfums and lockets are just ideal for your something old. Freaking out about wearing your grand-mother’s wedding dress from 1870? Calm down, I’ve got you. If you really want an antique with you on your big day, you can cut out pieces from an old dress and incorporate into your super fly 2019 dress.
Take an old beaded dress for example…all you have to do is take out the beads and sew them unto your dress and voila! You’re walking down the aisle in the presence of your late great grandma, her great grand-ma and everyone is happy! Some people are very passionate about having all family members (even those that have passed on ) with them as they make the biggest decision in their life – Jump the Broom! Now you totally can. Just find something that belonged to your loved one and make it your own. You’re welcome!
